FantasyLand Theatrical Productions at the Pointe Performing Arts Center will open the award-winning Jonathan Larsen musical Rent this Friday, Sept. 23 — and it will be staged in the round.

Rent has delighted fans, gained a devoted following, toured the country, and established itself as one of the best-known musicals of a generation. Dedicated to celebrating life and friendship, to living each day in the time of AIDS, poverty, homelessness and media sensationalism, Rent tells the story of a group of bohemian New Yorkers.

At the Pointe Performing Arts Center, the audience will be right in the center of the lives of  Roger, Mark, Mimi, Maureen, JoAnne, Angel and Collins. Onstage seating beside the orchestra and staging that extends into the aisles helps viewers to share the experience.

Director Christian St. John says this staging coupled with Jason Brame’s orchestration, music direction and live band is “a Rent like nothing you have seen before”

Rent runs Sept. 23-Oct. 9, with showtimes at 8 p.m. Thursday–Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday.

An opening-night benefit this Friday, Sept. 23, will feature a cash bar and silent auction with proceeds going to two local charities – The Center and the Ryan Skipper Foundation.

The Pointe Performing Arts Center is offering dinner and a show packages for all shows that include parking validation and complete meal at Taverna Opa or BB Kings for $40, as well as regular admission tickets for $15-$20 and onstage seating for $25
